owl shift
It's been almost a week since i did night shift. It was pretty okay. Here's an overview of how the night went:
Reached about 8.25pm. The 2 other staff on night duty were already there. I'm pretty happy to be doing night with the 2 staff as they are 2 of only a few working staff whom i'm comfortable with. The night started pretty good. I'm already familiar with most of the tests. But i'm mainly in charge of the coagulation samples..the PT APTT test. Also assisted the other 2 staffs when needed like checking for blood clot. blood is usually in liquid state right? bllod clot is semi-solid, somewhat like a clump of blood.Eeekk..i don't really like checking for clot as i think it's quite tedious. It's easy if there's really a clot so u can automatically report that theres a clot. But the problem is when there's no clot 'coz you need to really make sure theres no clot. Some clot can be very tiny so yah, pretty tedious. Besides that, the work part is okay. It's pretty fun actually as i get to do alot of hands on compared to in the morning. Theres more working staff in the morning so i only get to do limited things. By 12AM, i was super happy. i was working in the early morning! A bit jakun i guess as this is the first time im doing night shift. I was quite occupied with work till about 12.30am. Less samples came in so i spent the time working on my major project workbook. Had a break from 3-5am. I think it was meant for a nap. i didn't know about the break and i already slept kiasu-ly at home during the day. Tried to nap but was not feeling sleepy at all so i just tossed around and nap for at most 10 minutes. The samples began to come in from 5.30AM. It's the peak hour. So was busy till about 7.45AM. Headed home shortly after that. So, some may want to know if there's any eerie encounters right? Sorry to disappoint, but there's no such encounters. The only incident which gave me the goosebumps for a little while was when i heard this pretty strange noise. I was alone in the lab at that time but it wasn't spookily quiet as the radio was switched on. There's this weird blowing kind of noise. But i didnt really think much about it. Probably another example of my imagination gone wild. So that's it...night shift accomplished. Yesterday, i accidentally broke a glass slider, which is used to perform blood smears. I have no idea how i broke it but from the reaction i get from the working staff, i'm probably the first to ever broke a slider. Yipee? I can't remember what i was doing with it before it broke. But i think i was exerting alot of pressure on it. Informed a staff about it. She just asked me to throw it away. Unfortunately, it happens that the slider that i broke is everyone's favourite slider. Today, this other staff was looking for that particular slider. They were asking each other for it in chinese so i wasn't really sure at first. But it was pretty obvious that they were looking for that slider so i approached them and said i broke it. They just stare at me for a while and then laugh. Not funny when you're the one who broke it. and they went on about signing bond for 5 yrs coz i broke the slider blah blah blah. they were kidding, of course. But i think they are not so happy. Couldn't blame them. Their fave slider got broken by an intern. It was an honest incident though. Oh well.. |
